Sharing a VERY important prepping recipe here that took me quite a while to ascertain. To make your own chlorine dioxide (ClO2) using DRY ingredients, the correct ratio by weight is 3 parts sodium chlorite to 4 parts sodium bisulfate. We can combine VERY small amounts in water and watch the ClO2 get generated in seconds. Use cautiously (in very small amounts like 1g) because it generates chlorine dioxide, obviously, which kills MRSA superbugs, kills covid, can be used to sanitize almost any surface, kills algae growth in water containers and much more. Requires good ventilation. Don't breathe in the gas, obviously. Sodium bisulfate is available as a pool pH modifier. Sodium chlorite is easily available online and is safe to store by itself. Exercise all necessary safety and precautionary steps. This is a powerful deodorizer, sanitizer and much more. Every prepper should have this.
@HealthRanger Why is the gas toxic to breathe in but yet chlorine dioxide solution is safe to ingest diluted? Why is it safe to put chlorine dioxide into the water of animals? What makes the gas different (toxic)?
I need to know how much to treat water, for a 275 gal tote, what ppm would be enough for harvesting rain off a roof?
@HealthRanger Thanks for doing the investigative chemistry work. I was wondering how, or what was used to make those chlorine dioxide tablets work.
