Yesterday, I picked up a crocheting needle and it hit me. Young women today do not have the skills teenagers were taught by their mothers a generation ago. If I had to make a warm hat, gloves or mittens, I could do that because my mother and grandmother taught me. I can sew clothes if I had to. I mentioned learning to crochet to one of my grand kids and saw her eyes glaze over. As a teenager my mother taught me to crochet, knit, sew. Learned all of the embroidery stitches too. Today, if SHTF I could "make" things to survive, but unfortunately our young women today remain untaught by liberal mothers who themselves never bothered to learn cultural skills. My mother required me to cook supper one day a week, and Mom and Dad actually held their criticism when I put too many herbs in the meatloaf. i have no one to leave my unique knitting needles to when I go. It's really kinda sad. Sob!
@Thyme1967 About 3 years ago I took 5 of my daughters (The oldest was gone to college) to my grandma's house for a week of sewing. My grandma is in assisted living now but her house was available along with her sewing machines, and such. Each girl made herself a ruffle skirt with a matching handband. They were not very professional - I'm not a seamstress by any means. But they learned and the youngest, now 12 has been sewing herself and her sisters clothes ever since. This summer the girls and I made their bridesmaid dresses for the oldest sisters wedding. So be encouraged! Some kids want to learn these skills - they just need someone to show them. I bet there are kids around that would love for you to teach them-- I hope you can get in contact with some - what a blessing that would be!
@Thyme1967 as a teenage punk rocker, I would sew patches onto my jackets and pants. I didn't always do a good job so safety pins always came in handy 
. I still use those skills today though and am way better!

This movie was so well done. I am amazed at how they were able to handle this dark subject in such a godly way. We are super protective over what our kids see, but we will go back and take the older kids.
