Working Sign Painter / Hot Rod artist. I work daily in my garage studio...Also I'm sharing some living skill videos, articles and hand drawn stuff, covering some of my prepping. The survival content is backed by my lifelong study in primitive living skills, and of course thinking "outside the box." As Mrs. Keys and I are practicing our own, it is easy enough to make a video (as armature as it can be, lol) that I hope will help others.

The old antique garden tools still work good, was surprised just how handy the scythe is. I just made a new handle for the short blade, made it straighter and I like that better. As we put into play our "Can't go to Walmart Anymore" skills before we need them, has been an experience that has brought the household closer together, as well as a lot of laughs figuring out the Scythe and Cultivator.
don't know on this yet...We will see. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL3vnoIqHX8
Stocked up on bailing wire myself...lol

The Passion fruit has really gone crazy out back with the break of the summer heat.....seems late blooming this year, but they are everywhere. the wrinkled fruit is still not ripe, you have to wait until they are all dried and yellow on the outside...although the animals don't always wait...hardly ever get any to eat. When we do they are really a unique tasting fruit, lots of seeds surrounded by a pulpy, sweet, juicy covering.
Supper tonight, Cold expressed grass green drink from crabgrass, (see my video on Brighteon) Purslane sprigs and some Wood Sorrel....oh and a Sugar Baby watermelon out of Mrs. Keys' Garden. I have been acclimating my diet over to the wild stuff, and really enjoying it. Feeling the better for it. Doing it before I have to, has become, Doing it because I like it. Enjoy.
One of the Foxtail/Millet grasses in the back yard, lots of little seeds, fun to winnow out. We encourage this type of growth. You can eat them or magically change them into eggs, by feeding to your chickens....Enjoy.
Sunchokes and Elderberries two "wild Edibles that require no care....great choices for gardens of the future. Where watering and fertilizers aren't available. We also "steward" Lambsquarter, Blackberries, Stinging Nettle, wild Millet grasses, as well as wild asparagus, into our little field behind the house. Fruit trees are iffy last few years, but "wild" mulberries really produce. Of course we do utilize the grasses, chickweed, and purslane as well....seeds are available still for all these self sustaining species of plants....Start Now.
Sweet Potato patch has spread like crazy, they will just grow until first frost. Fall Garden is popping up here is a little bean patch....Our domestic plants are okay and require care, watering, weeding, and a lot of Prayer. But We have "Stewarded" in the wild plants that grow by themselves, "Grow like weeds" with no care. I'll take some comparable pics today, and show in next post. Have a "Boss" day.
Elderberry Pickin' time....They don't taste like much, plain, But Mr. Keys makes vinegar out of them. The elderberry vinegar is a very mild and goes great on salads and greens.
Today's Prepping practice cutting some arrow shafts, Wild Rose, and a few Chokecherry, they are peeled, and bundled for "curing"(the drying process.) Bundle is tied with bark fibers from Mulberry tree branch...extra bundle of fibers are in the cup, I'll use them later. The shafts will dry for several weeks , they are wrapped to help them dry straight.....enjoy
Today's prep tip is....Get one of these...It is the knife "I love to hate." Well made, easy care and does the biggest portion of your work needed, get the one with 2 blades and the little saw. Victorinox, "Hiker" or "Camper" model. especially good beginner's knife as well....Why do I Love to hate it? Well it just doesn't look like something, John Wayne would pull out of his pocket. (I carry another knife a little more tough looking , for when I'm working with my peers....lol Cheap enough on Amazon.
As I try to navigate this New land of Brighteon Social....I'll just post some photos of Bushcraft / survival stuff and see what happens, maybe a monster or two from my painting in the studio, lol Enjoy.
Here is a little survival /prep cartoon page to go with the video on Brighteon....there is a link for a pdf article as well. Enjoy, while you are practicing your preps. Video is on, Dan Keys channel and is entitled, "Sign Painter Survival #1 Nutrition made Free and Easy........Enjoy
