@Toni If there was a binary star in orbit with the sun which was a red or brown dwarf it would be emitting various electromagnetic radiation which would intensify as the proximity of the star closed apon the orbit of the earth and the sun. The closer the star approached the sun the more the magnetosphere of the 2 stars would interact causing vast ejections of charged particles to travel between them.
