Building potatoes pits to conserve water and feed them. With the combination of a dry climate and poor soil I'm build these trenches to grow potatoes in. The wood at the bottom will act as a sponge to hold onto water, the grass contains nitrogen and adds organic matter, and keeps the soil from turning to concrete like clay after it gets wet. This is the same method I'm going to use for all of our other crops.
